A new patent application from Tesla US20190106055A1 suggests an advanced sunroof lighting system that allows you to manipulate the incoming light according to requirement. A tint layer is sandwiched between two transparent layers and is electrically controllable to allow none, some, or all of the sunlight incident to the sunroof. A ‘transparent lighting layer’ is added between the tint layer and the second transparent and has LEDs embedded in it. This layer also contains multiple scattering cen...

Along with the many gains that come with going cashless today,  financial digitisation also gives way to a massive influx of cyber crime. The upsurge in fraudulent transactions and security threats have posed a serious challenge to central banks and clearing houses. According to data breach statistics, 267,088 data records are lost or stolen every hour. Only 4% of the total breaches committed since 2013 were “secure breaches” where encryption was used which rendered the  stolen data useless. Th...

"The nation that leads in renewable energy will be the nation that leads the world" - James Cameron

Our demand for energy keeps escalating. The energy sources we depend on currently for heating our homes and fueling our vehicles are choking up the environment by releasing harmful carbon dioxide into it. It’s the need of the hour that we reduce our dependence on the dirty fossil fuels of the past and shift to alternate sources of energy, the development of which will assist in the protection of t...

US20190101980A1 was published by Sony that describes a head mounted display and prescription glasses to be worn with it. Instead of incorporating the eye tracking system in the HMD alone like their traditional headset, Sony decided to implement it in the prescription glasses as well. This could eliminate the image distortions created by the lens of the prescription glasses as seen before. The user information captured by the glasses is transmitted through a wireless signal to the HMD by the emi...

The U.S - China trade war is at its peak, and it looks to me that the two greatest world economies have taken the phrase "fight fire with fire" a bit too seriously. With both sides calling eye for an eye, the tariff they imposed on each other was recently reported to have covered goods worth more than $300 billion. This trade war has left people dreading a possible relapse of the turmoil caused during the great depression.

The United States has a...

Remember when people used to carry cell phones the size of bricks? This is around the time when instead being an economic necessity, the cell phones only served a singular purpose - calling. Let’s quickly go through some of the key milestones ( focusing on the basic embodiment) that helped shape what would now be referred to as man’s most loved invention.

1973 - The first ever phone call was made by Doctor Martin Cooper, a Motorola employee in New York using a prototype Dyna TAC phone. This phon...
